Marvin's obituary

Marvin Fischer, 73, of Bessemer, AL, passed away on June 12, 2023 after a long illness . Marvin was born on August 31, 1949 to Clare O. Fischer and Ernest Gilbert Fischer in Terre Haute, Indiana .After graduating from Plainfield High School in 1968 he went on to study at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona and graduated in 1972. He married and had two beautiful daughters, Megan and Kara. After graduation, he landed his first job for Raytheon Corporation and frequently moved around the United States for his company. He enjoyed golf, traveling via cruises to many global sites. Because he loved history, he was most excited about seeing Ephesus . Even though he did not attend the University of Alabama, Georgianna graduated from there and introduced him to its football and basketball winning teams. He made many friends on these special game days especially John and Glenda Lewis.

Marv proudly made Bessemer, Alabama his home and was especially excited about getting our Greenwood home accepted to the Historical Commission.

He was a proud member of Morgan United Methodist Church and participated on many projects.

Marv was especially proud of his daughters: Megan and husband ,Jeremy Weis and 2 grandsons , Luke and Logan , of Columbia, S.C. He was also father to Kara Rallo, husband Paul, and 2 grandsons, Frank Ernest and Fischer, of Charlotte, N. C.  He greatly loved his stepchildren and their families, including John Thomas Surrock and his wife Erin,  and their daughter Ivy.  And also Blake and her husband, James. There was always a smile on his face when he got to talk with them!

Oh, Marvin, you were so, so sweet even in the midst of turmoil and physical limitations! I don't remember too much interaction between us but I do remember your smile, your consideration for others, your gentle ways, your willingness to go out of your way for others and, for lack of any better words, your solidness. Our class is populated with so many wonderful people! You were definitely one of them and will be missed by all, no doubt. May your family somehow get through this in the knowledge that they shared life with a terrific human being! Rest in Peace, Marvin.

Marvin It was an honor to have been able to call you Friend and Neighbor. You aiways had a kind and gentle spirit. Even when times were not in your favor you still had the same kindered spirit. To your wife, children and grandchildren  I offer my condolences for a Friend who is now in a better place. God Bless

I remember Marvin as a quiet and kind guy with a caring smile.  I never pass by his old house without thinking of him.  He will be geratly missed by many.  I pray his legacy will be carried by his children and granchildren.  He was an inspiration to many in our class.

Having read through the comments by our classmates, I can not think of anything to add that has not been said.  I definitely agree with the comments posted.  My memories of Marvin can be summed up by saying he was a class act.  A truly good person in so many ways.  My deepest condolences to his family and friends.  He will definitely be missed by all who knew him.  Rest in peace Marvin.

It is hard to add to the above sentiments.  Marvin was such a genuinely good and kind classmate.  Handsome, smart, smiling, athletic...perhaps he and Don C can play ball on the same team again.  Rest in peace..

have been trying to find words to respond to Marvin's passing and to add to everyone else's.

didn' know marvin that well but respected him as a smart yet gentle jock;  we played football before i wrecked my shoulder and loved marvin's competitive spirit.

sorry to hear he's gone, but as Karleen said - he's probably still running plays with Donnie Casselman up there.

RIP Marvin, and thanks for the memories.   wish there coulda been more

When I was in elementary school and we would play softball at recess, you always wanted to be on either Marvin's, Donnie Casselman's or Steve Goens team. As it turned out they all excelled in athletics in high school and in Donnie's case, college as well. And sadly they all left us much too soon. But not before leaving a lasting mark and legacy for their families, friends and all those they touched. What an honor to have been a classmate with these three along with all the others who have gone before. I am glad I was able to visit with Marvin at our 50th reunion. A gentleman and a scholar...and just a truly nice guy.

I sit here at the computer trying to type my thoughts and emotions about the loss of a truly good classmate and man.  I just read Bill Smith's comments about Marvin.  Bill painted the picture for me of Marvin that I remember so well.  Yes, Marvin was a neighbor, classmate, friend and teammate.  Above all, I remember Marvin being that calming factor on and off the court and kind to all those who knew him.  In these few words, I have not done justice to Marvin's memory, but I am so greatfull for having had the opportunity to know Marvin. Marvin, you will always be remembered and missed.
