1964 Scout Trip

As Bob Cushman recalls, they hiked 75 miles over 12 days in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in New Mexico carrying everything (food and gear) on their backs. It was quite the physical trip. Bob sold light bulbs door to door all winter to earn enough money to pay the $140.00 cost of this trip. Memories like this will never go away!

Philmont Scout Ranch is the Boy Scouts of America's largest national High Adventure Base. It covers 137,000 acres - about 214 square miles - of rugged mountain wilderness in the Sangre de Cristo (Blood of Christ) range of the Rocky Mountains in northern New Mexico.

Philmont Scout Ranch operates 34 staffed camps and 55 trail camps. Philmont has high mountains with rough terrain and elevations that range from 6,500 to 12,441 feet.

Bob is in the top row, far right.  Doug Armantrout is in the 3rd row, third person in from the far right.  Can you find Rick Coleman and Dennis Wells??  They are the only members of the 1968 class who were on this trip.
