Dale Smeelink -Deceased

Dale (Blackwell) Smeelink 1949 - 2015

Dale Smeelink, age 66, passed away Saturday, April 4th.

He was born in Bexar County, Texas on March 17, 1949, the son of John and Catherine Blackwell.

He married Diane L. Patterson Smeelink, and she preceded him in death on May 1, 2010.

He graduated from Plainfield High School and attended IUPUI.

He had worked for Conrail-CSX as a journey carman, had worked as a truck driver for Schneider Trucking and also worked various other places.

He did two tours of duty in Vietnam in the Marines, earning both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

He was a hard worker who was dedicated to supporting his family.

He is survived by his children, Shannon Beeler and Husband, Justin, of Lake Villa, ILL; Shawn Smeelink and wife, Jessica, Lafayette and Heather Newcomer, Greencastle; eight grandchildren and half siblings Jimmy Olfers, Robert Olfers, Randall Olfers, Wayne Capehart, Bruce Capehart and Amber Capehart.

Services will be conducted at 7p, Thursday, April 9 at Bousley-Hays Funeral Home, Coatesville, with Pastor Kevin Thompson officiating.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4p until the time of the service. Condolences can be left at www.bousleyhaysfuneralhome.com.

Burial will be at 9a on Friday, April 10th at the Marion National Cemetery with military honors.

Feeling so sad about Dale's passing! Recalling memories of Grenda's funeral with Dale as pall-bearer - Guess I'll always remember him as somebody I wanted to know better.
